Billing

The Billing page is where you manage your Socket subscription. Find it in the dashboard under Settings → Billing, or go directly to https://socket.dev/dashboard/org/<your-org>/settings/billing.

From here you can review your current plan, change how many dev seats you're paying for, update your payment method, and view past invoices.

What counts as a seat

Socket bills per dev seat, and only active committers consume one. An active committer is someone who triggered a full scan through a commit or an API request.

📝 Inviting someone to your organization does not use a seat. Team members who only sign in to view the dashboard, read alerts, or triage findings are always free. You only need more seats when more developers are actively committing code that Socket scans.

Because of that, adding people to your org and adding seats to your plan are two separate actions:

  • To give someone access to the dashboard, invite them from the People tab. See Users.
  • To raise the number of billable dev seats, change your seat count on the Billing page as described below.

The Billing page shows your current seat usage in the Dev Seats row of the plan card, and your Active Committers count for the last month in its own section. Compare those two numbers to decide whether you need more seats.

Change the number of seats

  1. Go to Settings → Billing in your organization's dashboard.
  2. In the Current plan card, find the Dev Seats row.
  3. Select Change seats.
  4. Enter the total number of seats you want. This is the new total, not the number you're adding. Going from 10 seats to 15 means entering 15.
  5. Select Change seats to continue.
  6. Confirm the change on the Stripe checkout page that opens. Review the prorated amount, then complete the confirmation.

After you confirm, Stripe returns you to the Billing page and you'll see You have changed the seats of your plan. The new seat count takes effect immediately.

Billing for the change

Seat increases are invoiced right away. Stripe prorates the cost of the added seats across the remainder of your current billing period, so you're only charged for the time left before your next renewal. Your regular invoices after that reflect the new seat total.

Seat limits

The Change seats page enforces the range your plan allows and shows the minimum and maximum inline.

  • Below the minimum. You'll see Seats must be between <min> and <max>. Each plan has a seat floor. If your subscription is already below your plan's current minimum, your existing seat count becomes the floor instead, so you keep what you have.
  • Above the maximum. You'll see Please contact our sales team for pricing and purchasing information. Reach out to Socket and we'll size the subscription for you.

When you can't change seats yourself

The Change seats option is hidden when self-serve seat changes don't apply to your subscription:

  • Enterprise plans. Enterprise subscriptions are priced and sized with Socket directly. Contact your account team or Socket support to add seats.
  • Subscriptions managed by Socket staff. The Billing page shows This plan subscription is managed by Socket staff. Contact us for any changes in your subscription.
  • AWS Marketplace. If you bought Socket through AWS Security Hub Extended, plan and payment changes are handled in AWS Marketplace, not in the Socket dashboard.
  • Pending invoices. Settle any outstanding invoice first. The Billing page flags this with You have pending invoices.

Change your plan

To move between plans rather than adjust seats, use Change plan or Compare plans in the Current plan card. Upgrades take effect immediately. Downgrades are scheduled for the end of your current billing period, and the Billing page shows a Plan change scheduled banner with the date until then. You can cancel a scheduled downgrade from that banner at any time before it applies.

Invoices and payment method

The Invoices & Payment Information section links to your Stripe customer portal, where you can:

  • View and download past invoices
  • Update the card or payment method on file
  • Update your billing address and tax details

Add-ons

The Add-ons section lists additional features and services available for your organization. Each add-on shows its status and monthly or yearly price. Some add-ons are Enterprise only and show Contact Sales instead of a purchase option.
